MediaShield and Wistia

Keep Wistia. Put the lessons behind your member login.

Wistia is built for marketing video, with heatmaps, CTAs and lead capture. MediaShield plays those Wistia videos on your WordPress course pages behind a member login, with the viewer's name on the video and completion recorded per student.

Do you need both?

Wistia on its own is enough if

Your videos are marketing and sales video where lead capture, CTAs and A/B tests matter, or a shared password is enough protection. Wistia's analytics are built for that job.

Add MediaShield if

Some of your Wistia videos are paid lessons. You want only logged-in members, a role or, with Pro, enrolled LMS students to play them, the member's name on the video, a cap on devices per account, and completion per student in WordPress.

Wistia's pricing page lists private sharing and passwords on every plan and playback protection on Enterprise. MediaShield adds member-only playback, a viewer watermark and a device limit on your WordPress site, without an enterprise contract.

What this page says about Wistia was checked on 24 October 2026 against wistia.com/pricing. Products change, so confirm anything that decides your purchase on the vendor's own site. No Wistia prices are quoted here.

Why people add it

What changes on the lesson page

  • A login beats a shared password

A password gets passed around. A WordPress login is one person, and MediaShield caps how many devices that account can watch on.

  • The leak names its source

The watermark shows the member's name and IP and moves every 30 seconds by default, so a recording points back to the account.

  • Marketing and lessons on one host

Keep Wistia for sales video and use the same account for lessons. MediaShield only wraps the videos you add to its library.

Where Wistia stops and MediaShield starts

Wistia is excellent at answering marketing questions: who engaged, which part of the video held attention, which viewer became a lead. For a course, the questions change. Is this person enrolled? Did they finish lesson three? Is one account being watched on five laptops?

Those answers depend on your WordPress members. MediaShield adds them to Wistia video without touching your Wistia account.

Setting it up

  1. In WordPress, open MediaShield > Videos > Add New Video and paste the Wistia address. MediaShield detects the platform.
  2. Keep Protection Level on Standard for the login gate, watermark and session tracking.
  3. Optionally set Restrict to Role, or with Pro link the video to a LearnDash, Tutor LMS or LifterLMS lesson and tick Require enrollment to watch.
  4. Place it with the MediaShield Video block or [mediashield id=X].

With Pro, the Platforms screen connects your Wistia account with an API token so you can browse and import media instead of pasting addresses. Platform connections lists what each host needs.

What it does not change

Wistia’s own player controls stay in charge of things like speed on Wistia embeds. MediaShield does not add captions, chapters or lead forms, and it does not hide the Wistia media ID. It deters casual copying and identifies a leaker; it does not stop a determined copier.

Questions about using Wistia with MediaShield

Does MediaShield work with Wistia's free plan?

MediaShield plays any Wistia video it can embed. Wistia's plans decide what Wistia itself offers, such as removing its branding; check their pricing page for that.

Does the watermark appear over Wistia videos?

Yes. It is drawn over the player, so it shows on Wistia embeds at Standard or Strict protection, as it does on every supported host.

Can MediaShield hide the Wistia media ID?

No. The Wistia embed has to carry its media ID to play. MediaShield's Hide Video Source URL applies to self-hosted files only. MediaShield controls who may play the video on your site.

Will Wistia's analytics and MediaShield's conflict?

They measure different things. Wistia reports on the video across everywhere it plays; MediaShield records sessions and completion for each WordPress member on your site. You can read both.

Try it on one Wistia video.

Add one Wistia video to the free plugin, place it on a members-only page and watch it as a student. Nothing changes on Wistia.
